When the catalog has nothing registered for a repeater, you're told exactly that, so you can check with the local club — instead of a guess.

Two repeater views got clearer. The Today dashboard now leads with what you actually want at a glance — your closest repeater, its band and how far it is — instead of a raw count over a big area. And the Repeaters tab now shows the nearest 25, 50 or 100 machines sorted by distance, so what you see is always the closest ones; each row still shows its real distance, so you can judge reach at a glance.

Repeaters near you are a lot more useful. If your location is set to a 4-character grid square — an area around a hundred kilometres across — the search now covers that whole area instead of only its centre point, so machines well within reach stop being missed; for some grid squares that was the difference between a full list and nothing at all. The list in chat reads better too: it shows where each repeater is, leads with the 2 m and 70 cm machines most people can actually use, no longer fills up with several from the same site, and prefers the bands your radios cover. And when your grid is only 4 characters we now say so, and show you how to set a 6-character one — which makes every distance far more precise.

Ask where to operate a digital mode like PSK31 or RTTY and you now get a useful answer: the band segment where that mode lives for your license, plus where people actually meet on it — instead of a dead end when no single calling frequency exists. Some modes genuinely have no published calling frequency anywhere; the answer now says so and hands you the segment, which is what an operator can actually use.

Ask which country a callsign PREFIX belongs to and you now get a real lookup instead of an educated guess — "what country is YS?" comes back El Salvador, and YN comes back Nicaragua. Neighbouring letters belong to different countries, so this is one of the easiest things to get wrong. Coverage is deliberately partial: when a prefix isn't in the table you are told that plainly, rather than handed a country that might be the wrong one.

Name your radio the way it's actually printed and it's recognised. A model typed without the maker's series letters — "Anytone 878UVII plus" rather than the full AT-D878UVII — used to come back as a radio we'd never heard of; now you get its details, with a note when the exact variant you named isn't the one we hold. Writing a model with or without its hyphen also counts as the same radio.

Ask how something works and you get an explanation, not a list. "How does propagation work?", "Why do repeaters use a 600 kHz offset?" and "What causes a POTA pileup?" used to be answered with today's band conditions, the repeaters near you, or the activations near you — the right data for a different question. Asking what's open now, or for the repeaters or parks around you, still gets the same instant answer it always did.

Japanese operators now get answers matched to their actual class. First, Second, Third and Fourth Class differ in which bands they hold — the Third and Fourth Class gaps sit in the middle of HF, not at the top — and band suggestions and privilege answers now follow that. Power is given the way Japan actually sets it: per band, and separately for a fixed station and a station that moves, which can differ by a factor of twenty on the same licence. The 160 m and 80 m bands, which are split into several separate segments in Japan, now have band-edge answers where before they had none, and three bands that do not exist for Japanese amateurs are no longer offered.

Foundation, Standard and Advanced differ in which bands they hold, and band suggestions and privilege answers now follow that — a Foundation licence is no longer offered bands it does not have. Four microwave bands that had no answer before are covered, along with the conditions that apply on them, and power is given per level and per emission mode the way the class licence sets it out.
